Candied pears, jasmine flowers and hazelnuts, persistently contest for the nose of this lovely, delicate wine. Nosiola is an ancient grape variety, native to Trentino, and currently confined to the Valle dei Laghi and Pressano in a measly number of single figure hectares. Elizabetta Foradori, ferments and ages Nosiola, on skins, in clay amphora – Tinaja from Spain – for a period of 8 months, giving a wine that has to be drunk during a meal, rather than fore or aft. Although delicate and ‘chock full o nuts’, it has considerable structure and grip. I know it’s a white wine but listen up! Chilling is out, reasonable room temp is fine – turn that central heating down -  and decant it for an hour before serving.
