Mas Foulaquier, Pic Saint-Loup, 'Petit Duc', 2013

23.99

Similar to an enclosed Burgundy parcel, the small vineyard of Mas Foulaquier is situated at the northern fringe of the Pic Saint Loup Cru. Viticulture is biodynamic, weed control is by hand and fertilisation is with horse manure and horn silica. The grapes are hand harvested and gravity fed prior to fermentation in concrete vats lined with epoxy. That’s the nerdy stuff covered – what does it taste like? ‘Petit Duc’ is 100% Grenache – a rarity in the Pic Saint Loup – and due to the limestone soils gives a much lighter and elegant wine than could be expected. Gorgeously fruited, it has notes of blackcurrant with a lick of the herby spiciness of the garrigue. Full and fleshy its tannins are softened by maturation in old oak foudres.
