If you can remember the taste of ‘old school’ white Rioja get ready for a trip down memory lane. This was the standout performer, at a recent wine dinner, evoking fond memories of why great Rioja Blanco is Spain’s equivalent of fine white Burgundy. A blend of Viura, Malvasia and Garnacha Blanca, destalked by hand, gently pressed and traditionally made at Sonsierra, in the Rioja Alta zone, with fermentation in new French oak barriques, from the Vosges, with six months on lees and battonage – lees stirring - each week followed by extended maturation in barrel for a further nine months.

Yep, you’ve guessed it, its oaky and smoky, with hints of orange and citrus peel, a dash of tropical pineapple, and lashings of creamy vanilla, with enough acidic bite to cut through the richest of dishes.
