This powerful Tuscan red wine was Italy's first DOCG. Deep, rich, and filled with dark plums and cherries it's reminiscent of a great Chianti Classico Riserva only more exuberant and alcoholic from the warmer climes of Montepulciano, south east of Florence. A blend of 80% Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese) and 20% Canaiolo Nero from a small 9 hectare plot, this is heady, concentrated stuff with a hint of warm, scorched earthiness with a lick of classy oak from 18 months in barrique.
