Greco di Tufo 'Devon', Cantine Caggiano, 2016

For those of you who are 'new' to Greco - pay attention! It’s the oldest wine in Avellino and has been around since the first century BC – no excuses then. It was originally cultivated on the slopes of Vesuvius where it was given the name Lacryma Christi or ‘Tears of Christ’.

It’s a classic white wine with refined and yet restrained fruit – if you love being clubbed over the head with aromatics then its not for you. It takes its time in the glass before revealing a perfume of hazelnuts and bitter almonds, then some peach, white flowers and a dash of golden delicious appleyness on the finish help to cut through the rich olive oilyness of the dishes of the Amalfi coast. A complex wine for simple food.
