Carignano del Sulcis, Rocca Rubia, Santadi, 2014

19.95

We had been after a Sardinian producer for some time before we settled on Santadi - in the south west of the island around Sulcis. Originally after a Cannonau, we eventually settled for the perfectly pitched combination of warmth and freshness present in this Carignano, the Carignan of south western France.

Giacomo Tachis the legendary winemaker of Tuscany's Antinori was involved in the making of this fine red wine, and the commitment to quality and structure, purity of fruit, oak integration and persistency of finish is a testament to the seriousness of Santadi's intent.

This is currently our only Sardinian wine, but the potential offered by the soils, terrain, aspect and indigenous grape varieties mean that bybo, like Bono, still haven't found what we are looking for.
