Le Vin Est Une Fete Rouge, Elian Da Ros, Cotes du Marmandais, 2016

Le Vin est une Fête hails from the Côtes du Marmandais, an appellation that was once better known, with now only a fraction of its former hectarage under vine, due to an increased appetite for New World Big Brands – I hope you’re feeling suitably guilty! About an hours drive from Bordeaux and planted with two of the regions signature varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in a 40/40 ratio with a dash of the local Abouriou. It’s fully organic and smells like summer pudding, with raspberries, squish soft blackberries and just a hint of violets. Its pretty as a picture, silky and delicate and as Matt Walls said in Decanter Magazine ‘quietly unforgettable’. (O)
