Many adjectives are used to describe wine, but seldom ‘winey’. This is a 'winey wine'. What exactly do I mean by that? Well, in the first instance, I am not struggling to find words to describe what it is. This is as it is; a nervy, jittery, delicate, fragile, mix of aromas and flavours that hint at the myriad nuances of Burgundy. But then no, there’s something else, a kind of angularity within the purity that only quiet and sustained labour in the vineyard can bring out. The Gahier’s have devoted a generation to wines such as this. Crisp, crystal clear, cherry red, excitingly light, sparkly tannic, lively, fresh and very winey!
