You may have come across the white wines of Savoie whilst skiing – if your tastebuds haven't been scorched by gluhweinRoussette de Savoie is made from the grape variety Altesse – never heard of it I hear you cry – and this is from one of the loveliest of the 17 crus Frangy. An utterly divine melange of pears, shortbread and honey with a slash of minerality from the limestone and glacial moraine soils, it is delicious with any river fish, or the local Beaufort cheese. I spent the summer in Savoie and can’t get enough of these deliciously delicate, hand harvested, leesy, mellow whites.
